méli-mélo opens on Sunday 18 May and will run until 7 June at Queens Brussels in Laeken.

In méli-mélo, mysterious forms emerge, recognisable yet elusive. They take you on a colourful journey past memories, dreams and stories, mostly from childhood.
Ellen Meers' ceramic tiles are like tablets with hieroglyphics that seem to come home to art house Queens Brussels, whose stairwell is decorated with an early 20th-century mural of ancient Egyptian scenes. Placed side by side, Meers' symbols tell a story. Underlying them are anecdotes and memories from one's own childhood or stories of friends and family.
Dona' Gillon's paintings hover between abstraction and figuration, the visible and the invisible. Freed from classical perspective work and in an instinctive manner, the artist delves and hides motifs under various layers of acrylic that appeal…
